While discussing his former athletic abilities with an ESPN reporter, former Navy SEAL and current CrossFit Games Director Dave Castro appears to have misread his own training log. During the interview, Castro was asked about his personal record on the classic CrossFit couplet “Fran.” In what can only be described as a moment of confusion, Castro reported that he once completed Fran in 2 minutes and 6 seconds. This would have placed Castro among the top athletes in the world for the workout.
“I was looking at my old training journal and saw what looked like a time of 2:06 for Fran, and I thought, ‘Damn, I was pretty good back then.’”
Moments later, he realized his mistake.
“I looked a little closer at that day’s entry and saw that it wasn’t Fran. It actually took me 2 minutes and 6 seconds to pull my max deadlift that day.”
Castro apologized to the reporter for the confusion and smoothly transitioned the conversation to his hobby of competitive shooting.
Castro’s deadlift was caught on film, and can be seen here.
