Russia’s Roman Khrennikov Leads as CrossFit Fans Learn Europe Region Includes Male Competitors

Yesterday marked the start of the first 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games Regional competitions, kicking off with the Europe, East and South Regionals.

In the Europe Region, held in the Velodrome in Berlin, Germany, fans have been cheering for their favorite Games veterans. This list includes three-year Regional champion Sara Sigmundsdottir, 2017 Meridian champion Kristin Holte, and two-time CrossFit Games champion Annie Thorisdottir.

But many have been shocked to learn that the Europe Region includes a second division- one occupied entirely by men.

“When the Dottir’s heat was over, I left the Velodrome like everyone else,” explained spectator Davit Novák, who sported a Cristiano Ronaldo-style mullet, Adidas track suit, and loafers without socks. “But when I learned there was a men’s division, I dropped my cigarette, grabbed two more Oettinger Pils, and went back in to cheer.”

Growing awareness of the men’s competition seems to be the result of Regional Rookie Roman Khrennikov. The 21-year-old Russian has placed in the top 3 of the first 3 events, and leads the pack by an impressive margin.

In an exclusive interview with The Overheard Press, Khrennikov said his sights are fixed on Madison.

“I can not be defeated. I beat all man. Someday, I will beat a real champion. If he dies, he dies.”
